Job Title: College Placement Director for Self-Governing Schools

Qualifications

Description:

This individual will oversee training, professional development and performance of the college counselors.
The Self-Governing Schools include Detroit Institute of Technology at Cody, Medicine and Community Health Academy at Cody, Cody Academy of Public Leadership, Osborn Collegiate Academy of Mathematics, Science and Technology, Osborn College Preparatory Academy, Osborn Evergreen Academy of Design and Alternative Energy, Dr. Benjamin Carson School for Science and Medicine and Detroit Collegiate Preparatory High School.

Education:

Masters Degree in counseling or other directly related field required.

Experience:

A minimum of three (3) years directing a multi-person counseling office/college placement program in an urban general admissions secondary school
Proven experience developing and evaluating programs
Effective written and verbal communication skills (preparation of reports, presentations, leading meetings, etc.)
Proven ability to collaborate with principals, counselors and other school staff
Strong existing contacts with the college admissions offices of Michigan public and private universities and colleges, as well as with admissions offices of technical schools in the Detroit area

Attendance:

Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.

Citizenship:

Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.

Physical Condition:

Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.


Duties and Responsibilities

Train a team of college counselors in the development and implementation of college planning programs for grades 9-12

Provide opportunities for professional development of college counselors
Lead the development and implementation of college planning programs/activities
Plan and implement regular meetings with college counselors
Establish relationships and network with representatives of colleges and universities, outreach programs, scholarship organizations and other professionals in the field

Work to develop and maintain database of financial aid resources
Create and update Postsecondary Planning Guide
Perform program evaluation, data collection and data analysis
Collect and maintain data regarding college placement
Support schools 90/90/17 vision (90 percent graduation rate, 90 percent college matriculation, 17 ACT score)
Other duties as assigned
