RCT Process
The RCT is a school-based problem-solving team that works collaboratively with Detroit Public Schools parents, staff, and community members in addressing individual and school-wide issues that affect student learning. The RCT enhances academic achievement by promoting a healthy school environment that addresses the social, physical, cognitive and emotional development of all Detroit Public School students.
How to Access RCT
Students may be referred to the Resource Coordinating Team (RCT) by the school community (i.e. teacher, administrator, parent, student) by completing the Resource Coordinating Team Referral Form. Parents may contact the school administrator to make a request for RCT.
School staff and students may contact members of the team which may include: Principal or Designee, the student's classroom teachers, support staff (school psychologists, School Social Worker, Teacher of Speech and Language Impaired, school nurse, guidance counselor, attendance agent, etc.) regarding consultation and/or initiation of the RCT process.
RCT Process
The RCT process includes three levels of problem solving. Level one includes interventions developed by the teacher, parent and/or grade level team to address the student's difficulty in his/her present educational setting. It is monitored using the Level One Intervention Log.
When Level One interventions do not produce desired outcomes additional RCT staff may be needed and the RCT Referral Form is completed. The additional staff will work to develop specific strategies to address the problem(s) using the Level Two Intervention Action Plan. The RCT will monitor the effectiveness of the interventions recommended and implemented using the Intervention Monitoring Log and suggest further interventions if necessary.
Through the process of problem solving it may become clear that additional resources and services are needed to address the student's concerns. At this point, Level Three, Section 504 or Special Education Services may be considered. A Comprehensive Educational Report should be filled out when making these referrals.
