Cass Tech building receives top design award

Cass Technical High School’s building recently won the top design award given out by Learning By Design, a prestigious national guide that showcases outstanding school design and construction projects.

This honor is handed out each year to an educational facility whose design is, “reaching new heights as it strives to keep pace with the needs and goals of today’s students.”

A panel of judges cited Cass Tech’s “new innovative design, creative site plan, exterior splendor, thoughtful circulation, and modern curriculum spaces.”  The judges believe that Cass Tech is “bound to become a landmark” both educationally and physically. They were impressed with not only the quality of architecture, but also with the ability to build such a spectacular building in a tight urban space.

Opened in 2002, the new seven-story structure houses 2,200 DPS students, and offers them a world class educational experience. Each student is given the opportunity to explore different curriculum areas, and classrooms are strategically arranged to allow students the opportunity to “interact, collaborate, and communicate with fellow students and teachers in the different areas of study.”
