At Neinas Elementary School, students are submerged in a multi-cultural learning environment. Located in a diverse community, Neinas Elementary accommodates a large population of Latino families and has several partnerships with the surrounding Hispanic community. Since many parents of the students do not speak English, Neinas also offers Spanish speaking bilingual teachers and staff.
Learning at Neinas comes in a variety of forms. Students can learn by taking part in Academic Games, After School 21st Century, After School Enrichment Programs, or participating in the accelerated math and reading programs. These programs are of course in addition to the core curriculum students are already being taught each and every day. Other things such as computers in every classroom, classroom libraries, technology classes, and computer literacy classes enhance the education students receive. Nearly 100% of the schools core academic teaching staff is rated as highly qualified to ensure the education Neinas students receive remains the best.
Neinas Elementary principal Alberta Lyons is proud that the school continuously meets AYP and has received recognition throughout the community for all they do. School staff and students are thrilled to be part of a new venture funded by the Skillman Foundation and implemented by Southwest Solutions. Neinas Elementary is one of the sites for a new literacy program, Toyota Family Literacy Program. The program is aimed to not only “teach parents English, but allows them to spend time in their children’s classroom to help their children with schoolwork.” This will prove to be very benefical at Neinas because it further opens the communication lines to eliminate all learning obstacles.
Annual programs such as Winter and Spring Festivals, Cinco de Mayo celebrations, Reading Challenge, Special Music Programs, and Mother’s Day Program at Breithaupt Vocational/Technical Center, are also useful tools for Neinas staff to work along side parents to ensure children are learning. At Neinas Elementary, the staff believes every child can and will succeed!
