At Farwell Middle School, the theme is TEAMTogether Everyone Achieves More, especially the students. Founded in the belief that it truly takes a village to educate a child, the staff realize that parents, staff, business partners such as DTE and the United Steelworkers of America, plus the community can all make a contribution to the education of children that results in improved student achievement.

The staff incorporates the Block Scheduling method for teaching which reduces the number of class changes the students have to make. The method gives teachers a block of teaching time rather than just a class period which encourages more active teaching strategies and results in better student focus and achievement.

Farwell has also developed small communities for learning called Clusters. Each Cluster has a name and is assigned to a particular area of the building. The same students, administrators and teachers remain in a Cluster for three years which helps give the student a higher level of familiarity and comfort with the teaching community and that helps the teachers and administrators to bring about student achievement.

Everyday, the students arrive in uniform to begin their core academic studies, and to also take advantage of special programs such as sports, Future City, robotics, choir, the marching band, Cranbrook Upward Bound and more. If a child is in need of special services, there are counselors, social workers, a psychologist, and a Resource Coordinating Team on hand to help the students and their families.

The Student Code of Conduct is strictly enforced and students are not allowed to have cell phones, pagers, games or any other personal electronics in school. At Farwell, the day is full of focus on student achievement.
