Campbell Elementary School is a Skillman Good School Grant Award Winner for 2008 and received a Skillman Honorable Mention for Improving Schools. Campbell received those honors because the school staff are student motivators. 100% of the core academic staff is rated as highly qualified which is a status that takes up to two years to attain. Most have Masters Degrees in their subject area, and all attend professional development workshops and mentor the students.
The attendance record reflects the students’ motivation. It’s 90%!
When the students come to school, they know their day will be a perfect mix of academic learning and learning in other programs such as Girl Scouts, choir, Junior Achievement and more. The vision was to create an academically enriched environment that helps expand the students’ physical, cultural and intellectual development. Campbell has reached that goal.
Academics center around the core subjects along with supportive learning opportunities such as Reading Is Fundamental, the media resources, and tutoring. The school also has full-day preschool and kindergarten and all children wear uniforms.
Along with strong parental involvement such as volunteering, the community plays an important part in this learning process. A good amount of support and learning opportunities also come from business partners such as the Detroit Medical Center/Children’s Hospital of Michigan, the Pepsi Cola Bottling Co., and the Mobile Dentists.
At Campbell focus on the total development of the child is what the staff live everyday.
