Office of Early Childhood Education paraprofessional (School Service Assistant) must obtain required clearances for licensing as well as have current health appraisal/TB test, CPR/first Aid and Food Handler's Card on file in the early childhood classroom and in the administrative (Early Childhood) office.
Must posses and provide evidence of High School Diploma or GED certification; and sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited insititution, or passing scores on the WORKKEYS assessment exam (you must contact Henry Ford or Macomb Community Colleges for test dates). Also,
Successful candidate must possess and provide proof of one (1) of the following:
1. Child Development Associate Credential (CDA); or
2. Associates Degree in Early Childhood/Preschool Education or Child Development; or
3. At least two (2) college credits in Child Development along with a plan of work to complete the course requirements to earn an associate or a CDA within two years.
Proof of education must be submitted/attached at time of submission the on-line application.

Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.
Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.
Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.

Under the direction of the Early Childhood Supervisor or Designee:
Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment physical, as well as a security background clearance.
1. Meet and greet children;
2. Set up equipment and assist in organizing materials for classroom instruction;
3. Assist with preparing monthly reports (i.e. volunteer services, meeting forms, etc.);
4. Assist children with their coats/boots, arrival and during dismissal;
5. Assist/accompany teacher on Home Visits;
6. Prepare classroom teaching materials and assist in classroom instruction - under the teacher's direction;
7. Encourage and participate in classroom educational activities, i.e. singing, dancing and other
reasonable physical activities - under the teacher's direction;
8. Assist with classroom upkeep and management;
9. Work with small groups of students or individuals, throughout daily schedule - under the teachers direction;
10. In the event of toileting accidents, assist child in cleaning up and changing into dry clothing;
11. Assist with, and participate in, family style meal service and clean up after food is served;
12. Record anecdotal notes on students and enter into Online COR;
13. Record the daily meal count at the point of meal services;
14. Assist in helping to maintain a safe, sanitary and clean environment, assist in keeping the room, appliances (refrigerator), *utensils, cabinets, tables, etc., clean and orderly (*eating
utensils must be sanitized regularly);
15. Assist with the preparation and serving of snacks and/or breakfast and lunch to students;
16. When working with children the special needs,
Assist in implementing the Individual Education Plan (IEP) developed for children with
disabilities and their families.
Write progress notes on observations of special needs children (under the teacher's direction), and include in child's folder after teacher's review.
(MEDICINAL NEEDS FOR ALL STUDENTS MUST BE CARRIED OUT BY THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR.)
Encourage independent participation of special needs children in all aspects of the program.
Attend all city-wide in-service activities and sessions related to your job description;
17. Assist at Parent Committee Meetings (i.e. supervise children during meetings, etc.).
18. Perform all other assignments as requested by the Teacher, Principal and Office of Early Childhood Education Administration.
