Location: Central Administration – Self-Governing Schools Group
Masters Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or directly related field.
At least seven (7) years experience in strategic planning or program/project management, with a minimum of two (2) years management experience;
Experience working within urban school districts and/or urban charter school organizations strongly preferred;
Experience creating and executing strategic plans, including work planning to effectively prioritize and execute tasks for self and team;
Exemplary presentation skills, organizational skills and communication skills;
Strong internal consulting skills, including interpersonal skills and analytical and problem solving abilities;
Self-motivated and directed; ability to take initiative with projects;
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;
Willingness to “roll up your sleeves” to support work in a dynamic, start-up environment;
Strong belief that all students can achieve and that all schools can and should be 90/90/90 schools;
Knowledge of education reform strategies, research, and key players nationwide and focus on continual learning to bring promising practices to the children of Detroit;
Commitment to a customer-service orientation.
Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.

In partnership with Self-Governing Schools Group leadership team, develops and manages the Self-Governing Schools Group strategic plan;
Coordinates Self-Governing Schools Goup resources on a weekly basis to ensure that workplans and critical tasks are executed;
Ensures that team keeps an eye toward longer-term organization planning, goal setting, and capacity building, in addition to immediate/short-term tasks;
Prepares status updates and reports to communicate the work activities and progress of the Self-Governing Schools Group to both internal and external audiences;
Seeks opportunities to provide clarity and regular information to principals, governing councils, and other impacted parties during a dynamic, start-up period;
Serves as a liaison with Detroit Public Schools central administration offices and staff to support a smooth transition of schools to self-governance and greater autonomy. Includes an immediate focus on funding/resources, procurement procedures and processes, and compliance;
Anticipates and responds to school, principal and governing council needs with a “customer first” orientation. Devises strategies to address customer challenges to ensure a high level of satisfaction;
Makes effort to regularly connect with stdents, parents, principals, staff, and community partners to stay connected to the work;
Ensures that the Self-Governing Schools Group and associated schools are in compliance with all local, state, and federal requirements;
Continuously evaluates and modifies Self-Governing Schools Group work as needed to best utilize resources and meet customer needs;
Mentors and supports Self-Governing Schools Group team members;
Regularly sets own professional development priorities in consultation with Chief Innovation Officer;
As appropriate, participates in advisory groups and other professional associations to stay connected to work in education, both locally and across the region;
Provides regular direction to Office Manager;
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Innovation Officer.
