Qualifications

Description:

In accordance with the agreement between the Organization of School Administrators (O.S.A.S.) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, Article 6.4, Promotion Procedure, the following vacancy is announced:

Education:

Candidates for this position must possess a Bachelors degree in Business, Education or related field. Masters degree preferred.

Attendance:

Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.

Citizenship:

Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.

Physical Condition:

Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.


Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as advocate and program coordinator for workforce readiness programs throughout the city.
Partner with local schools to share information. Contact local workforce readiness coordinators within the schools to discuss initiatives.
Identify and evaluate issues that impact workforce readiness and develop goals for workforce readiness strategy.
Report on workforce readiness issues to colleagues & cabinet members and serve as lead for education programs.
Serve as a resource on workforce readiness issues and provide leadership on education issues.
Monitor local activities concerning workforce readiness and provide timely information on education issues to local and state workforce readiness directors.
Work in close cooperation with executive director of college & career readiness.
Develop and present workshops and seminars that address workforce readiness issues.
Provide resources for local programs that promote betterment of the local workforce through educational process.
Respond to any other requirements of the chapter president and state workforce readiness director.
Participate in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategy planning for the chapter.
Provide direction and assistance to city site instructors.
Develop and monitor budgets
Attend district and city-wide meetings as required
Edit newsletter and provide articles as needed
Recruit, train and retain volunteers.
Manage and perform the departmental goals and functions that are directly aligned with the objective of an Adult Education work-based learning experience;
Create accelerated and connected pathways to help adult learners reach their goals;
Increase awareness and access to adult learning throughout the city;
Document and monitor the program completers alignment/compliance with State requirements and State Performance Measures;
Provide multiple work-based learning experiences inclusive of on the-job training programs, work-study programs, internships, apprenticeships, and job-shadowing programs;
Be able to maintain and convert data to track the students transitioning into post-secondary linkages / training;
Establish partnerships for a seamless transition within area businesses, employers, and postsecondary institutions to ensure that there are various opportunities for the diverse needs of adult learners;
Assist in creating Active Advisory Boards that reflect representatives from program specific businesses, industry, and community agencies for Adult Education;
Accurately document the expected tasks and outcomes of the work-based learning experience, to include the number of hours per specific training experience;
Be able to effectively communicate with school administrators, and possess analytical skills to present data driven results;
Integrate a unified strategic approach to increase basic skills along with work readiness development and post secondary attainment;

Essential Functions:

Be able to use word processing software including but not limited to word, excel, power point, and multiple database programs.
Be computer literate and able to type no less than 40 words per minute.
Be able to run meetings with a multitude of personnel from various backgrounds.
Be able to communicate well through written memorandums, emails, and on the telephone.
Support and carry out the mission to transform Detroit Public Schools and close the achievement gap
Perform other related duties as assigned, & be able to communicate and understand the predominant language(s) of customers/clients and staff.
