Salary Range: $18.55 - $25.17 (hourly)

In accordance with the Agreement between DAEOE and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, Article X, Vacant Positions, the following vacancy is announced:

Job Type: Non-Instructional

Qualifications

Description:

This position performs integral job duties relative to district communications, public relations, budget and finance, district partnerships with businesses, alumni organizations, community, government agencies, and executive level stakeholders; provides support to students, staff, and parents.

Education:

Applicants for this position must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Must attach a copy of high school diploma or GED certificate to on-line application. College helpful.

Experience:

Candidate must be currently classified as a Clerical Series Level III or IV with the Detroit Public Schools and have a minimum of seven (7) years of office experience providing direct support to a unit or division head.

Candidate must have extensive computer experience using Microsoft Office applications. Computer experience must specifically include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Must have documented experience using PeopleSoft Financials to obtain budget reports and to prepare departmental requisitions for goods and services.

Attendance:

Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.

Citizenship:

Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.

Physical Condition:

Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Communications Technician, Technical Series, Level III (Department of Communications) will:

Essential Functions:

Maintain the Executive Directors calendar and keeps track of appointments.

2. Write letters under the signature of the Executive Director.

3. Maintain the departmental budget and keep track of spending.

4. Create requisitions for payment of vendors.

5. Manage and receive on purchases through the PeopleSoft eProcurement process.

6. Maintain a financial file for vendors.

7. Assist clients to become vendors.

8. Assist clients in securing contracts with DPS.

9. Serve as departmental liaison for vendors and the Contracting & Procurement and Accounting Departments.

10. Complete and keep payroll records.

11. Search daily for educational news articles from various internet newspaper resources to create Todays News to post to the DPS website and email to DPS employees.

12. Order supplies and equipment.

13. Fan fax to schools for various departments.

14. Maintain recipient list of the superintendents eNewsletter/Report Card.

15. Post the superintendents eNewsletter/Report Card to the DPS website.

16. Post DPS press releases to the DPS Website.

17. Fax DPS press releases to the media.

18. Tape the news from local channels and view them for DPS news stories on a daily basis.

19. Maintain master tapes of DPS news stories and keep a log.

20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Security Clearance:

INTERNAL APPLICANTS
If you are a current Detroit Public Schools employee, presently employed with the district, you do not have to submit a fee related to obtaining the Detroit Public Schools security clearance.
