This role will provide operational and tactical and leadership for developing and maintaining a robust inventory management process for Detroit Public Schools. The Assistant Director will facilitate an Inventory Strategic Category Team which will work to develop the policies, processes, and systems to effectively and sustainably manage and control the inventory and assets. The span of control would include PO to receipt and movement of material within the district. The Assistant Director must work closely with internal customers, such as finance, accounting, risk management, and schools to ensure reporting compliance. As the new system is rolled out there will likely be process savings which will need to be captured. Additionally this position will develop and implement a process to assist various facilities with obsolete material. This position will be expected to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
Bachelor degree in Business Management, Inventory Management, Supply-Chain Management, or related field.
Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
A minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience
Demonstrated experience in successfully managing and leading complex projects.
Demonstrated experience in effectively influencing and leading change initiatives.
Demonstrated experience in successfully working with all levels of the organization
Strong management and interpersonal skills to include oral and written communication skills and the ability to motivate others, facilitate team building and drive change.
Process improvement and Lean Sigma experience. Lean Sigma certification preferred.
Strong data management and analytical skills (such as MS Excel and Access)
Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.
Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.
Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.
Establishing strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and demonstrates accountability with a focus on customer service
Create policies, procedures, and processes to effectively manage inventory throughout the district.
Establish inventory reporting that meets the needs and requirements of all internal and external customers.
Interfacing with DPS warehouses, schools, and other facilities where inventory must be managed.
Design, implement, lead and manage the inventory system for DPS.
Lead root cause investigations and apply corrective actions for any inventory discrepancies.
Ensuring compliance with all applicable Federal and State Laws, regulations and contract requirements.
