Qualifications

Description:

Will process inquiries, entries and updates to the LEIN and NCIC systems, ensure compliance with federal, state and local guidelines concerning the proper use of computerized criminal justice information systems, receive calls for service, dispatch District police, and request fire and ambulance services as needed, perform certain administrative functions as defined herein or assigned by competent authority, and perform non-peace officer duties as defined.

Education:

Must provide evidence of High School diploma or G.E.D. certification.

Applicants must attach to on-line application proof of HS diploma or GED certification at time of application.

Experience:

Related experience preferred.

Attendance:

Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.

Citizenship:

Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.

Physical Condition:

Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.


Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Executive Deputy Chief:

Essential Functions:

A. Shall operate and maintain required records of the department related to Law Enforcement Information Network terminal and CRISNET, maintaining proficiency i in all aspects of terminal operations, procedures and providing for the proper entries, inquiries and cancellations of information into criminal justice computerized information systems adhering to policy as adopted by LEIN, NCIC, and the Department.

B.Shall be responsible for receiving calls for information and service. In the case of those seeking information dispatcher/clerks shall politely assist those persons. In cases where he/she lacks the necessary training, he/she shall refer to a higher authority. Requests for service or emergency assistance shall be handled in an orderly, proficient manner, getting all information necessary for the prompt and efficient delivery of service.

C. Shall be responsible for dispatching department vehicles and personnel, relaying vital and necessary information to patrol, keeping supervisors apprised of all activities, assuring adequate response of personnel and supervisors as the situation dictates, and maintaining adequate and accurate records of all activities.

D. To maintain the front desk and dispatch area so as to ensure operational efficiency of the department.

E. Shall assist in the handling of all counter traffic as may be required, assisting citizens and/or township employees.

F. Shall perform such other duties as may be required or assigned by Command Officers of the department.

G. Shall be responsible to supervisory personnel and be subject to all laws and department policies as they apply to their position.

H. Shall perform a variety of tasks incident to police duties, but not those of a peace officer.

I. Shall be responsible for spending that time and those hours necessary to ensure adequate familiarization with other various job functions, maintaining a degree of knowledge and proficiency that will ensure the successful completion of those tasks assigned.

J. To deal tactfully and courteously with the public and to work harmoniously with other employees.

K. Perform other related duties as required.
