Location: DPS Charter School Office on 9th Floor of Fisher Building
The new DPS Self-Governing Schools Group is charged with the oversight and support of ten self-governing high schools. This charge combines the activities of a charter authorizer with the support services often identified with a charter management organization. The Deputy Director for Operations is responsible for working closely with the Chief Innovation Officer on a broad range of issues, especially during the months this initiative is being launched. The Deputy�s role includes figuring out how to provide these schools with the administrative services they require to operate without impairing the Principal�s role as the instructional leader; helping principals organize the teacher hiring process; organizing enrollment campaigns for the schools; developing budgets for each school; and participating in the training of the Governing Councils for each school. In short, sharing virtually all of the tasks that fall on the Chief Innovation Officer with respect to the launch of these ten self-governing schools in the fall.
Applicants must possess and provide evidence of a Master�s Degree in education, business, social science, or a law degree, or a Bachelor�s Degree in education, business, or the social sciences with two years of relevant experience in urban education
Applicants must have two years of experience of working with urban schools, their operations, and their budgets, and have working knowledge of the administrative functions and processes of DPS.
Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.
Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.
Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.
Under the direction of the Chief Innovation Officer the Deputy Director of School Support will:
Organize options for the Governing Councils of self-governing schools to provide critical administrative services for their respective schools
Assist the Principals through the teacher and support staff hiring process
Help the Principals develop school budgets to submit to their Governing Council
Mobilize the Principals and their community partners to undertake formal student recruitment campaigns to ensure full enrollment in the fall
Negotiate processes whereby the self-governing schools can meet the compliance requirements of the District
Participate in deciding which administrative services self-governing schools will buy from DPS, and which they will purchase in the private marketplace
Work with Principals and their academic partners on plans to produce the curriculum and lesson plans for the schools for the coming year
Communicate both within DPS and to the broader community the mission and goals of the self-governing school portfolio within DPS
