Special Note:

This role will provide strategic and operational leadership for supplier relations and will drive the selection of suppliers based on robust supplier qualification processes, ensure supplier performance based on metrics, drive innovation by designing and implementing supplier innovation workshops, design and execute Supplier Quarterly Business Reviews for Top 150 suppliers, manage supplier information and ensure compliance. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the development of a quality supply base while identifying strategic cost savings opportunities that maximize and optimize the overall value for Detroit Public Schools.


Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor Degree in Business Management, Quality, Supply Chain or related field.

Experience:

Strong leadership, communication and project management skills . A minimum of 7 - 10 years of experience in Quality, Strategic Sourcing, Customer Relationship Management. Strong leadership, communication and project management skills. Demonstrated experience in successfully managing and leading complex projects, effectively influencing and leading change initiatives, and successfully working with all levels of the organization. Strong management and interpersonal skills to include oral and written communication skills and the ability to motivate others, facilitate team building and drive change. Process improvement and Lean Sigma experience. Lean Sigma certification preferred. Access knowledge preferred.

Attendance:

Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.

Citizenship:

Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.

Physical Condition:

Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.


Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Executive Director, Supplier Relations and Inventory Management the Quality Director will:

Essential Functions:

Establish strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and demonstrate accountability with a focus on customer service.


Create policies, procedures, methodologies and tools to ensure a quality supply base.


Drive quality for suppliers and improve quality performance by establishing supplier metrics and supplier scorecards.


Interface with suppliers to drive quality improvements.


Design, implement, lead and manage the supplier quality system for DPS.


Create and execute a process for suppliers to provide innovative solutions with cost savings.


Lead the Annual Top 150 Supplier Meeting and Supplier Quarterly Review Meetings for Top 150.


Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions to resolve supplier quality issues.


Ensuring compliance with all applicable Federal and State laws, regulations and contract requirements.


Incorporate the use of Lean/Six Sigma tools and methods in supplier activities and problem solving.


Understand Strategic Sourcing Methodologies and/or Lean and Six Sigma.
