Qualifications

Education:

Candidate must possess and provide evidence of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate. A valid Michigan vocational teaching certificate relevant to instruction in a Baking and Pastry Arts/Baker/Pastry Chef Occupation curriculum, preferred. The successful candidate must also possess a thorough knowledge of Baking and Pastry Arts, acquired through a formal training program.

Experience:

Candidate must have a minimum of four (4) years or 8000 hours of documented paid work experience in at least one (1) of the following area(s): Baking and Pastry Arts; Baker; Pastry Chef. The experience must be within six (6) years of application. The candidate must possess a thorough professional knowledge of production baking attained through work experience in the Retail Commercial Baking industry and possess proficiency in the following areas: bread and pastry making, bread and pastry handling and storage, cake and pastry decorating, baking industry operations, product packaging and marketing operations, and counter display and service. Competency-based curriculum development experience desired. The right candidate must be student-focused and foster a positive student-learning environment. Candidate will assess student learning.

Attendance:

Regular Attendance is critical; must have an exemplary attendance record.

Citizenship:

Must be able to verify whether U.S. citizen, resident alien, or otherwise authorized to accept employment in the U.S.

Physical Condition:

Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.


Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Principal/Designee the Day Trade Instructor – Retail Commercial Baking will:

Essential Functions:

1. Implement the District’s and American Culinary Federation, Inc, (ACF) Standards through an on-going process of planning for innovation, change and continuous academic and performance improvement.

2. Create a classroom/lab environment that emulates the baking industry and is conducive to learning.

3. Establish a learning climate that promotes the orderly behavior of all students while maintaining the dignity and positive self-concept of each student.

4. Improve student achievement and advancement through data-driven assessment interventions.

5. Establish student success as a primary goal and provide opportunities for all students to experience success.

6. Provide for the well-being, health and safety of all students.

7. Effectively communicate and involve parents and community in the program.

8. Utilizes the community as a learning resource and as an extension of the classroom for students.

9. Expand cooperative relationships with community organizations, individuals, and/or activities related to the Retail Commercial Baking Program.

10. Promote student recruitment, attendance and retention.

11. Integrate academic and career/technical program curriculum.

12. Seek out and participate in professional growth experiences, such as externships and CIA training courses.

13. Involve students in state and national educational student organizations.

14. Participate in the Retail Commercial Baking Program Advisory Committee.

15. Enhance student mastery of employability skills and customer service skills required for the work-place.

16. Build good interpersonal relationships and establish positive rapport with students, parents and colleagues.

17. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by administration.

Security Clearance:
