Francisco Llobell, a junior at Western International High School, has no doubt where he wants to be in five years – at General Motors Headquarters, working as an automotive engineer designing cars. But if that doesn’t work out, he’s not worried, because he plans to pursue his talent in computer animation while at college and could fall back on a career in computer gaming. Breithaupt Holiday Buffet Luncheon

Breithaupt Career & Technical Center hosted its annual Holiday Buffet Luncheon on December 14, 2012. The Student Chefs of Breithaupt prepared Carved Strip Loin, Broasted Chicken, Pan-Seared Grouper, Saffron Rice, Roasted Red Skin Potatoes, Collard Greens, California Blend, Assorted Salads & Desserts, Iced Sweet Tea and Lemonade. Hundreds of guests attended the event to see (and taste) first-hand the great things that are happening in DPS!

College Night a BIG success at Breithaupt Career and Technical Center!

Breithaupt Career and Technical Center welcomed more than 150 students/parents to its recent College Night, where 14 colleges were represented. Wayne State University convened the evening with a financial aid presentation.  Parents were informed on topics pertaining to college admissions, financial aid, loans, pell grants, and scholarships, and the documents needed to complete these forms. There were sample FAFSA forms available so parents could follow along with the presentation, as well as familiarize themselves with the process. This presentation was very informative and the parents/students were able to ask as many questions as necessary, said Director Charlene Mallory. Detroit Public Schools’ Breithaupt Career and Technical Center is embarking on a unique partnership with Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, the Michigan Restaurant Association and ProStart, a national two-year program that prepares high school students for culinary careers. The Programs of Study guidelines are just one of the changes Detroit Public Schools is implementing as it revamps its CTE programs to ensure students are more prepared for the demands of 21st century employment.
