Congratulations Michigan Chronicle S.W.A.G. Scholarship Finalists

The Michigan Chronicle along with Talmer Bank is holding the First Annual S.W.A.G. (Students Wired for Achievement and Greatness) Scholarship ceremony on Wednesday, May 25 at 6 p.m., at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. The Michigan Chronicle will award 25 scholarships to Detroit High School seniors. Boys Basketball Regional Finals

To make it into the Regional Final U of D Jesuit stomped Churchill 74 to 49 and Western smashed Fordson 68-31. Now Western and U of D Jesuit face off in what should be a great game on Wednesday, March 16, at 5:00 p.m. The game is to take place at Renaissance High School, 6565 W. Outer Dr. The winner of this game will get into an elite bracket of eight teams and the winner of that bracket will be the Class A State Finals Champion. DPS Fulbright Teacher Scholarship Winners

Three Detroit Public Schools’ teachers were recently awarded with 2016 Fulbright Scholarships to Brazil! DPS scholarship recipients: Karen Russell, First Grade Teacher, Edison Elementary School Rachel Walker, Visual Arts Teacher, Renaissance High School William Bowles, Media Instructor/Librarian, Western International High School About the Fulbright Scholarship Program U.S. K-12 teachers and educators can apply for grants to engage in 2-8 week collaborative projects abroad. Participants support projects and consult with schools, non-profit organizations, teacher training institutions, and other educational organizations. MHSAA Boys District Tournament Results

The Michigan High School Athletic Association Boys District Tournament’s Semi-Final Round concluded Thursday, March 9. Class A The results from the games held at Grosse Point South High School are Western edging East English in overtime 77 to 76 and King beating Cass Tech 54 to 37. At Southfield High School, Renaissance beat Southfield Lathrup 60 to 45. DPSL celebrates more than 40 scholarship recipients on National Letter of Intent Signing Day

Student athletes signed scholarship commitment letters to colleges and universities throughout the country More than 40 Detroit Public School League student athletes announced which colleges they plan to attend, on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 during a National Letter of Intent Signing Day ceremony held at the Horatio Williams Foundation. The Detroit Public School League hosted its 7th Annual Signing Day event where Boys Varsity Football and Girls Varsity Basketball student athletes signed their commitment letters for scholarships to colleges and universities throughout the country. Families, coaches and school supporters filled the room while the student athletes announced their college destinations. New High School Open House Series tailored for 8th grade students

Detroit Public Schools launched this month a NEW initiative to ensure Detroit 8th grade students can explore the District’s High Schools before the spring Enrollment period to allow parents/guardians and their children to make the best decision possible for their High School of choice. All Detroit 8th grade students graduating in June 2016 are welcome to attend these fun and engaging events.
