Southwestern students score big in Academic Games!

Southwestern’s Academic Games team qualified to participate in the National Academic Games competition in Virginia, which took place last week. The team won second or third place in five out of seven games (English and Math). Student Julio Morales missed winning an overall medal by one point. Team members were: Julio Morales, Isaac Elicea, Denisha Fletcher and Micah Stiger. Mrs. Denise Brazier is Southwestern’s Academic Games instructor. “We are all very proud of their accomplishments, and wanted to share the good news,” said Stefana Romanov, Principal of Southwestern High School.

Recent college basketball signees from PSL girls’ ranks

Renaissance High’s April Johnson has accepted a full-ride scholarship to play basketball and pursue a degree at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla. Johnson was a 5-7 senior shooting-point guard on a rebuilding team of mostly underclassmen. Southeastern High’s twin 5-5 senior guards, Cherese and Therese Vassar, and 5-0 senior guard Teonna Pope have accepted scholarships at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek and 6-0 senior center Jazmine Kimbrough is signing with Macomb Community College. Recent signees include Pershing High’s Caprice Dennis, this year’s Miss PSL and the state’s Class A player of the year, who has decided on the University of Miami (Fla.). Previously, Cass Tech guard Branndais Agee signed with Michigan State Unversity, King High forward Chelsea Lynn signed
