Two Southeastern High School students are even more prepared for college this fall after winning scholarship prizes and gifts during the 2012 Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) Engineering SMArT DetroitTM Competition. Southeastern students Alexis Mitchell and Brenyon Hesson each received a $6,000 per/year renewable scholarship to Lawrence Technological University (LTU), a Nook Color Tablet, gift card and trophy for participation in the May 30th event held at LTU. The competition involved engineering and architectural design. Southeastern took home the top prize. The Engineering SMArT DetroitTM Competition was sponsored by the Engineering Society of Detroit; United Way for Southeastern Michigan; Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc.; Parsons Brinckerhoff; and Citizens Bank. Eleven Detroit Public Schools students were named winners of the MORSE Code Scholarship Contest May 15, 2012 during a press conference at Renaissance High School. Scholarship sponsor Michael Morse, P.C. Attorneys at Law, in partnership with Detroit Public Schools, the Detroit Public Schools Foundation and United Way, announced the winners, where 11 DPS juniors and seniors received college scholarships totaling $25,000. Nearly 200 DPS students submitted multi–media entries conveying a creative message on the dangers of distracted driving, especially cell phone use while behind the wheel. The MORSE Code Scholarship Contest (Make Our Roads Safe Everywhere) promotes awareness among teens. One grand prize winner received a $5,000 scholarship and 10 students received $2,000 each toward furthering their higher educational goals.

Students at Southeastern High School are celebrating a huge victory after winning $5,000 during the first annual Fifth Third Bank Dave Ramsey Jeopardy Competition held April 26, 2012 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago–Detroit Branch. More than 100 students competed in the competition from Northwestern High School, Southeastern High School, Randolph Career and Technical Center, and Davis Aerospace High School. The competition tested students on their knowledge of key concepts learned from the Dave Ramsey curriculum that has been presented in the classrooms of 11th and 12th graders at each school since January 9, 2012.
