Osborn MST seniors rack up $638,320 in scholarship awards

The senior class at Osborn Collegiate Academy of Mathematics, Science and Technology has racked up $638,320 in scholarship awards according to Andrea Jackson, College Transitions Advisor, proving that early planning for college works! The staff members at Osborn MST are essential in guiding students during their collegiate journey by encouraging juniors to begin applying for colleges at the end of their junior year and throughout the summer. The staff promotes getting a head start on college applications due to many colleges having a limited amount of scholarships available to award to oncoming students. DPS partners with Detroit Fire Department to board abandoned homes, eliminate blight near school buildings

More than 20 abandoned homes, fire-damaged structures and blighted properties near Dixon Educational Learning Academy and the Cody High School campus were the target of a massive blight elimination effort on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 9 a.m. – Noon. The effort corresponds with enhanced safety measures across Detroit Public Schools, including a program to add hundreds of Citizens Patrol teams to the district’s Safe Routes Program. A new target of 14 key school zones—including the Cody/Rouge area— was announced in early August as part of the district’s five-year Strategic Plan. Students Expand Horizons through Partnership with Cranbrook

Through a unique partnership—offered ONLY to Detroit Public Schools—nine DPS students took part in a project to create an original exhibit at Cranbrook Institute of Science using artifacts that support research and coursework. Students from Henry Ford and Osborn MST high schools worked together to build an exhibit based on World History and Geography. The theme is “DPS and the Treasures of Cranbrook Institute of Science.” The students were challenged to select the objects, do background research, and create an exhibit that is aligned to the curriculum they are currently studying. They were given complete creative control over designing an exhibit using original artifacts. Osborn stretches PSL Division II girls’ tennis streak to eight in a row

Osborn High won gold medals in seven of the eight championship matches to emerge with its eighth consecutive Detroit Public School League Division II girls’ tennis championship Friday at Barcus Tennis Center. Led by freshman Denae Williams’ 6-3, 6-0 victory against Central sophomore Elisha Lorick at No. 1 singles, Coach Rodney Wray’s Lady Knights scored 22 points to match the collective point total of Central and Kettering, which tied for second with 11 points. Northwestern placed fourth with six points followed by DIA with five and Cody with two. Southeastern and Pershing both were scoreless and Finney did not play.
