Open registration is September 30 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Mumford or Northwestern DPSCD students are invited to attend Saturday Schoolhouse in the D every Saturday from October 7, 2017 to May 5, 2018 at Mumford and Northwestern High Schools. The program, sponsored by UAW-Ford, will offer free academic and extra-curricular courses to youth ages 8 – 18. The courses will be held from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and will include free lunch. Academic and extra-curricular courses include: Robotics Swimming Mixed Martial Arts and Wrestling Sign Language SAT and Test Prep Photography Spanish Zumba, Dance and Theatre Chess Fashion Cooking And more! The upcoming Girls Michigan High School Athletic Association Tournament Quarterfinal Games are Tuesday, March 15. Class A King smashed Southfield Lathrup 74 to 56 on Thursday, March 10. King plays Ann Arbor Huron at Southfield at 5:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 15. Class B Mumford squeaked by Harper Woods 57-55 on Thursday, March 10. Mumford plays Country Day at Marysville at 7:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 15.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association Boys District Tournament’s Semi-Final Round concluded Thursday, March 9. Class A The results from the games held at Grosse Point South High School are Western edging East English in overtime 77 to 76 and King beating Cass Tech 54 to 37. At Southfield High School, Renaissance beat Southfield Lathrup 60 to 45. The District Championship games on Friday, March 11, will be Western vs. King at Grosse Point South at 7:00 p.m. and Renaissance vs. U of D Jesuit at Southfield at 7:00 p.m. Class B The outcome of the games held at Detroit Collegiate Prep Academy are Detroit Collegiate Preparatory High School at Northwestern smashing Hazel Park 90 to 63. Construction of a new $52.1 million high school nearly complete on the Wyoming Street campus Demolition started today of the 63-year-old former Samuel C. Mumford High School on the campus located at 17525 Wyoming Street in northwest Detroit. It will take demolition crews approximately nine weeks to level the 240,273-square-foot Art Deco style structure that was built in 1949. Construction of a new $52.1 million facility is nearly complete on the former athletic field and will open this fall. A new football and track and field area will be constructed on the grounds of the old high school after demolition of the structure is complete. The rest of it is just practice and getting ready.” Zanders is primed to be a double champion again after winning the 1600 and 3200 as a sophomore and the
