Sasha Johnson, a 6-0 senior middle hitter for Cass Tech’s girls’ volleyball team, has been named the Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week.
Johnson earned the honor after her impressive play in the University of Michigan-Dearborn tournament in which the Lady Technicians posted a 3-1 record, beating Allen Park, Lincoln Park and Plymouth Christian before losing against Livonia Franklin in the semifinals. The Cass Tech co-captain had 27 kills and 10 service aces and was named to the All-Tournament team.
“Sasha is a big-time front-row player,” Cass Tech coach Ed Tomlin said. “I expect her to be a Division 1 (college) athlete.”
The Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week award is representative of the league’s top boys and girls athletes. The award is presented by the DPS Office of Athletics and sponsored for the fourth year in a row by Detroit-area McDonald’s owner-operators.
