King High’s Alicia Norman, a sophomore who played like a veteran as the starting point guard for the Lady Crusaders, has been named Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week.
“She can do a lot of things, but the main thing she does is control the game,” King coach William Winfield said. “Defensively, she gets a lot of key stops for us and offensively she does a really good job of getting everybody involved. She doesn’t turn the ball over and her composure is impressive. She’s as cool as a cucumber.”
Norman, who stands 5-4, averaged 11 points, two assists and four steals in helping the Lady Crusaders win their fourth consecutive PSL championship, district and regional titles and a berth in the Class A girls’ basketball state semifinals.
The Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week award is representative of the league’s top boys’ and girls’ athletes. The award is presented by the DPS Office of Athletics and is sponsored by Detroit-area McDonald’s owner-operators
