Considered one of the top high school basketball players in the nation, King High senior Marte’ Grays was tough to guard in the post or on the perimeter. Long and lanky, she excelled as a shooter and a shot blocker and played her best games against the league’s top opposition.
In a 63-42 victory against Renaissance, the 6-2 forward-center had 18 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. In a 58-36 victory against Cass Tech, she had 19 points, including 10 in the first quarter. She also excelled against top outside competition, scoring 25 points in a 52-50 victory against Chicago Crete Monet.
Named Miss PSL as the league’s top senior basketball player, Gray was a finalist for the state’s 2014 Miss Basketball award and will be attending DePaul University on a basketball scholarship.
The Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week award is representative of the league’s top boys and girls athletes. The award is presented by the DPS Office of Athletics and sponsored for the fourth year in a row by Detroit-area McDonald’s owner-operators.
