Cass Tech’s three-peat merited a repeat for Aaliya Davidson.
The Lady Technicians’ 5-10 junior outside hitter is the Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week for the second time in her career after leading her team to its third consecutive PSL girls’ volleyball championship.
“I’m humbled and I’m happy to get this honor,’’ Davidson said. “I’m proud of myself, but I’m mostly proud of my team because we all did it together.”
Indeed, it was a team effort that resulted in Cass Tech claiming a 3-1 victory against Renaissance in the best-of-five championship match. But Davidson’s dominance stood out. “We couldn’t have done it without her,’’ Lady Technicians’ coach Ed Tomlin said.
With a year of high school competition still left, Davidson is being heavily recruited by several major college programs. She mentions the University of Miami, Wake Forest and Colorado State as “some of the schools that are really interested in me.”
For now, she’s striving to maintain her 3.8 GPA as an honor student and to continue her improvement on the court.
“I work hard and I practice quite a bit all year round,’’ she said. “It helps to have great family support and team support. This team was probably the best Cass ever had. And next year, we hope to be even better.”
The Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week award is representative of the league’s top boys and girls athletes. The award is presented by the DPS Office of Athletics and sponsored for the third year in a row by Detroit-area McDonald’s owner-operators
