Ford High’s Josh Davis, who despite foul trouble scored 21 points in the Trojans’ 70-52 Class B regional championship victory against Detroit Consortium and 20 points in a 61-55 quarterfinal victory against previously unbeaten New Haven, has been named Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week.
“He played with four fouls in both of those games and he just willed his team to victory,” Ford coach Ken Flowers said. “He didn’t want to go home and he kept the guys’ heads in the game. That’s what you want from your senior leader.”
Davis, a 6-5 shooting guard and forward, averaged 17.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists entering the state semifinals. He has committed to play collegiately at Western Michigan University.
The Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week award is representative of the league’s top boys’ and girls’ athletes. The award is presented by the DPS Office of Athletics and is sponsored by Detroit-area McDonald’s owner-operators
