Congratulations King Girls Basketball Team!

The King Girls Basketball Team represented the Detroit Public Schools wonderfully by getting all the way to the championship game! Of the 64 teams in the tournament Detroit Martin Luther King Girls Basketball Team is the 2016 Girls State Championship Runner-up! King just barely lost 65 to 67 against Warren Cousino on March 19. What a great season by all the girls basketball teams!

Good Luck King and Ford Basketball Teams!

Only four girls basketball teams are left in the MHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament and Martin Luther King is one of them. King barely got by their last opponent, Ann Arbor Huron, winning 58-54 in overtime on Tuesday, March 15. Now King plays St Johns on Friday, March 18, at 1 p.m. at the Michigan State University Breslin Center. If King wins they’ll play for the MHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament Championship Saturday, March 20, at noon. The only Detroit Public School boys basketball team left in the tournament is Henry Ford and they face a tough New Haven team on Tuesday, March 22, at Lake Shore High School at 7:00 p.m. Henry Ford is three wins away from being MHSAA Boys Tournament

MHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament Update

The upcoming Girls Michigan High School Athletic Association Tournament Quarterfinal Games are Tuesday, March 15.   Class A King smashed Southfield Lathrup 74 to 56 on Thursday, March 10. King plays Ann Arbor Huron at Southfield at 5:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 15.   Class B Mumford squeaked by Harper Woods 57-55 on Thursday, March 10. Mumford plays Country Day at Marysville at 7:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 15.

Congratulations RHS and King Basketball Teams!

The 2016 Girls Operation Friendship Games were held at Mercy High School in Farmington Hills on Thursday, February 25, 2016. The Consolation Game was Renaissance vs. Mercy. Renaissance won by a score of 56 to 47. In the Championship Game King won 66 to 47 over Marian. The 2016 Boys Operation Friendship Games will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016. The Consolation Game – Renaissance vs. TBD will be held at Renaissance High School and will begin at 4:00 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $5. Congratulations King Girls and EEVPA Boys Basketball athletes! Fifth Annual DPSL Big D Basketball Tournament Champions!

The Fifth Annual DPSL Big D Basketball Tournament championship night was hosted by University of Detroit Mercy at the historic Calihan Hall on Friday, February 19. During the exciting 5:00 p.m. girls basketball game, Coach William Winfield’s Lady Crusaders outlasted the Lady Phoenix of Renaissance, Coached by Kiwan Ward by a slim score of 68-66. It was the fifth consecutive PSL crown for the Lady Crusaders. In the much awaited 7:30 p.m. boys game, Coach Juan Rickman’s Bulldogs of East English outran Coach Venias Jordan’s Phoenix of Renaissance by a final score of 86-62. DPSL celebrates more than 40 scholarship recipients on National Letter of Intent Signing Day

Student athletes signed scholarship commitment letters to colleges and universities throughout the country More than 40 Detroit Public School League student athletes announced which colleges they plan to attend, on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 during a National Letter of Intent Signing Day ceremony held at the Horatio Williams Foundation. The Detroit Public School League hosted its 7th Annual Signing Day event where Boys Varsity Football and Girls Varsity Basketball student athletes signed their commitment letters for scholarships to colleges and universities throughout the country. Families, coaches and school supporters filled the room while the student athletes announced their college destinations. Detroit Volleyball Player Combine and Coaches Clinic

Renaissance High School will host the Detroit Volleyball Player Combine and Coaches Clinic on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 2-7 p.m. Middle School Players: 2:00-4:15 p.m. High School Players: 4:30-7:00 p.m. The clinic will focus on skill development, practice drills, technical and tactical skills taught by area college coaches.
