After tough competitions in the district finals, two DPSCD teams came out on top to advance to the MHSAA regionals. Congratulations to King and Cass Tech for their victories, and to the teams from Mumford, Central and East English for a great season. Shout out to all the supporters who came out to cheer on our boys! We’ll see you in the stands this Friday as the Crusaders and the Technicians continue their march to the state championship. Friday, November 10 Division 2: Ypsilanti Lincoln at King at 6 p.m. Division 1: Cass Tech at Chippewa Valley at 7 p.m.
National Football Signing Day
On February 1, National Football Signing Day, DPSCD athletes joined family and friends in the Horatio Williams Foundation Center to sign and commit to colleges across the United States. Daryl Weaver, the public address announcer for the Detroit Public Sports League, individually recognized the players as they made their way to sign.
A total of 32 from the DPSL students have committed and a select few graduated early to start winter conditioning with their college football teams. Congratulations Young Men!
Detroit Public School League’s Division I/II games this Friday at Ford Field Rivals Cass Tech and King compete for Division I title DETROIT (October 20, 2016) – The Detroit Public School League’s football games to determine who will make the MHSAA playoffs are scheduled at Ford Field this Friday starting with the first line-up at 4 p.m. with EAA’s Mumford High School (8-0) vs. Denby High School (7-1). The DPS Community District’s Cass Technical High School (8-0) will faceoff with Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School at 7 p.m. The 4 p.m. game will yield a Division I/II champion and the 7 p.m. game will yield a Division I champion. After these games there will be a TV selection
The Detroit Public Schools Community District Office of Athletics is eternally grateful to all vendors and community supporters who were present at the Dale Harvel Helmet Dedication Ceremony. The ceremony took place during halftime at King’s home football game versus Southeastern, on Friday, September 9, 2016.
Congratulations to our Team Detroit Youth Travel Baseball athletes for representing Detroit at the Piper Davis International Inner City Classic in Birmingham, Alabama on July 10. Several HBCU (historically black colleges and universities) coaches were present for the purpose of looking to offer scholarships. Nine athletes were offered and three were DPSCD students: Daniel Little- Renaissance High School, offered by Alcorn State University Jonathan Darby- Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School, offered by Wiley College George Osborn- Southfield High School, offered by Stillman College The team competed well in the tournament but fell short losing 5-2 to a team from Puerto Rico. Way to go Team Detroit and Coach Norman Taylor!

Detroit Public Schools Middle School Track Championship was held Saturday, June 4 at Renaissance High School. Middle school teams from across the district took the track, but Bunche Preparatory Academy took home the back-to-back championship title for boys and girls! Congratulations athletes and special shout out to Coach Plonka who does a wonderful job at getting his Bunche athletes out to participate!
