Detroit International Academy for Women and A. L. Holmes are closed due to power outages. Power has been restored at Carver Elementary and school will be open tomorrow, Monday, March 13, 2017. However, DTE is still working around the clock to clean up the aftermath of the storm and restore power to all locations. In the meantime, remind your family members, especially children, not to touch any downed power lines or anything connected to a downed power line as they walk to school or wait by the bus stop.

Recently, the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) issued a Boil Water Advisory covering the largest geographical area in its history. The Advisory blanketed a substantial portion of Detroit and affected 28 Detroit Public Schools Community District buildings. As a precautionary measure, acting in the best interest of our students and staff, we closed schools the second and third day of the crisis. As the crisis unfolded, Detroit authorities investigated the situation to determine if the advisory was justified. BOIL WATER ADVISORY UPDATE The Great Lakes Water Authority has issued a Boil Water Advisory for the Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park areas. This Advisory is in effect for the areas south of West McNichols and West of Conner in Detroit and closest to Hamtramck and has affected 29 Detroit Public Schools Community District schools. Due to the continuation of the Boil Water Advisory, the District has decided to take further precautionary measures and to close school tomorrow, Friday, March 3. As an additional safety measure, after the advisory is lifted, water lines will be flushed with running water prior to the start of school on Monday morning. Schools in the affected area include: 1.
