While many students were preparing for Thanksgiving holiday, 45 ninth graders from Mumford High School spent the day before Thanksgiving Break giving back to their community. The students volunteered at Cass Community Social Services, a Detroit-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing food, housing, health services, and job programs. Students were split into two groups: one group working in the kitchen to prepare and serve meals and the others worked in Cass Community Social Services’ Green Industries where students helped make mud mats out of illegally dumped tires.
“This was a great learning experience for the students,” said teacher Faith Fells. “Many of them are already looking forward to their next opportunity to volunteer!”
