DPSCD Students Decorate School Walls with Black History Art

While studying the abstract art and mixed media, the 8th Grade students at A. L. Holmes Academy of Blended Learning, under the guidance of Art Instructor James T. Porter, decided to mix a little media of their own this February.  Starting with a tribute to 44th President Barack Obama, the students prepared large canvases with splatter art, giving a nod to the techniques of well-known artists, such as Jackson Pollock, and then partnered with Mr. Porter to turn the paintings into portraits of people who inspire them, including Michelle Obama and Dr. King.

The portraits now hang outside the office of Principal Tammy Mitchell, who supported the project as a way for students to see not only people they are proud of but work they are proud of every day.
