Early Childhood Holiday Box Program

The Early Childhood Holiday Box Program is a Pre- School Christmas project coordinated by the Early Childhood School Social Workers (SSW), Mrs. Terri Bell, Mrs. Angela Johnson and Mrs. Juanita Longmire- Williams. This unique and special holiday program has existed in the Early Childhood Department, coordinated by the Early Childhood SSW’s, for the past 30 years. Teachers will come to Fleming on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016 between 9 am and 3 pm. The teachers will give the students their donated gifts on Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 to be taken home for Christmas.

The Early Childhood School Social Workers (SSW), asked the Pre-K teachers to identify three (3) of the neediest students in their classrooms who may benefit from receiving a Christmas gift.

The SSW’s took the list of the identified Pre-K students sent in by the teachers and filled their orders based upon the amount of donated gifts.

They sent annual letters to DPSCD community partners, individuals, religious organizations and businesses throughout the Detroit Metro area encouraging them to donate individually wrapped Christmas gifts to our Pre-School students in the 153 Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) classrooms.

The goal of the Holiday Box Program is to ensure that no Pre-K student go without receiving at least one gift wrapped Christmas present during the holidays. We want every student in the program to have a wonderful holiday. Their SSW office at Fleming Early Childhood building look like Santa’s workshop. It is filled with so many beautifully wrapped donated presents for our Pre-K students!
