FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: DPSCD TO BEGIN DISTRIBUTING 33,000 BACKPACKS FILLED WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO STUDENTS

WHAT:

Media is invited to take pictures, record video and conduct interviews on the first day of school! We will begin to distribute 33,000 backpacks filled with brand new school supplies to all Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) students in grades K-8. The Mike Morse Law Firm launched Project Backpack in 2015 and expanded the effort this year.

Media will be permitted inside the school (from 9 to 10 a.m.) and will have access to a classroom setting. Students will line up and receive their backpacks in an exciting ‘welcome back’ event.

WHO: 

DPSCD Transition Manager Judge Steve Rhodes and Interim Superintendent Alycia Meriweather, Mike Morse of the Mike Morse Law Firm, parents and students.

WHEN:

Tuesday, September 6 from 9 to 10 a.m. (Crews are also welcome to park outside the  school earlier in the morning and catch parents/students on their way to class.)
