More than 6,000 DPS students participated at the Detroit Shell Eco-marathon Americas April 22-24

Shell Oil in partnership with Detroit Public Schools facilitated transportation and lunch for over 6,600 students at the 2016 Detroit Shell Eco-marathon Americas April 22-24 at Cobo Center. Over 6,000 students from the general DPS population participated and another 600 DPS charter school students.

This is a world class globally recognized science fair. DPS students had a fun-filled STEM experience at the Shell Eco-marathon Americas at Cobo Center. They received a hands-on, up-close-and-personal opportunity to learn where energy comes from in the Maker Zone, how it affects us in our daily lives, and what Michigan-area companies, along with Shell and the student teams competing in the Shell Eco-marathon Americas mileage challenge, are doing to help make our energy future brighter.

Shell Eco-marathon entered into DPS classrooms with their e-curriculum and paper car kits. From the field trip, students will be even more excited and ready to embrace learning STEM.

Attendees spent at least 3-4 hours at the festival and toured the motor-sport-like Paddock area and met students who showcased their feats of energy efficiency on wheels! Student teams participated on the indoor track on Friday and the outdoor track on Saturday and Sunday.

As a result of the partnership with Shell Oil, 10 times more DPS student will be engaged in deep learning STEM-based activities in world-class environments. Next year the partnership hopes to facilitate over 10,000 student’s participation in this event.

The Shell Eco-marathon Americas was open to all metro Detroit area students, families and adults. For more information visit website below:
