CAY students visit DPS Graduate’s Tea factory

Coleman A. Young (CAY) Elementary School LitWorld “It’s a Girl Thing” students ventured on a special field trip to Ellis Island Tropical Tea factory on Friday, March 25.

Ellis Island Tropical Tea, created by Detroit Public Schools graduate and Detroit Entrepreneur Nailah Ellis-Brown, was developed from a family recipe that has been passed down from Nailah’s great-grandfather, master chef for Marcus Garvey’s Black Starline. In 2014, she opened her first beverage production and co-packaging facility in Detroit. Ellis Island Tropical Tea is currently sold in markets, such as Whole Foods and also available in three states!

After the students visited the Tea factory, they enjoyed lunch at a Detroit favorite Bucharest Grill. The girls were very excited about their visit and meet and greet with Nailah who will also be visiting CAY on Open Doors Day, Saturday, April 16!
