Gompers-Elementary School students received a special visit from the school’s “Reading Dads” Club on Friday, March 10. More than 20 Dads came to volunteer and read to show their support for March is Reading Month.
“The Dads’ mission is to team up with our Gompers teachers as fathers to show our young people we are a team in striving to make sure they are top notch in their lives.” Harold Harris, Gompers Elementary-Middle School Parent.
Another successful parent night at Gompers brought more than 125 dads to the school for the “Donuts with Dads” program on Tuesday, March 15. Guests enjoyed a performance by Gompers’ first grader choral students who sang two songs, and two eighth grade students who read poems to the fathers.
The preschool through second grade students and fathers colored “I Love My Dad” pictures at the table, and third through eighth grade students and fathers had to write a sentence about their favorite time with their dad. Students shared their favorite moments with all who were present.
The event really sparked a tremendous conversation between fathers, expressing their goals for the school, volunteering opportunities and making sure there continues to be a strong parent presence at Gompers!
