Wayne students create “Black History Quilt” in honor of Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, students at Wayne Elementary School are creating a “Black History Quilt.” The quilts will be on display from Friday, February 12 until March. Students will choose one or more biographies to read and draw a picture based on one scene from the life of each person about whom they have read. The images will be mounted on a larger sheet of colored paper.

The attached pages will be place on the main wall to form a quilt of famous African-Americans such as:

  • Barack Obama
  • Harriet Tubman
  • Frederick Douglass
  • Mary McLeod Bethune
  • George Washington Carver
  • Maya Angelou
  • Booker T. Washington
  • Ruby Dee
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. and many others!

Wayne teachers will also perform for students and parents, “Johnnie from the Underground Railroad” on Thursday, March 10 in correlation with March is Reading Month!
