Central junior quarterback Darius Lynaum named PSL Proud Strong Learner of the Week

With his school’s first trip to Ford Field on the line, Central High quarterback Darius Lynaum led his team across the goal line and has been named the Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week.

Lynaum took charge of the Trailblazers’ offense last Saturday in their 24-20 victory against Henry Ford in the PSL Division 2 semifinals.

lynaumThe 6-5, 200-pound junior connected on 12 of 20 passes for 175 yards and figured in three touchdowns, capped by a 12-yard end zone toss to Jujuan Bonner with less than two minutes remaining. Lynaum also had TD runs of 10 and three yards as Central (6-1 PSL, 6-2 overall) came from behind to earn a berth in the PSL Division 2 championship game against unbeaten DCP-Northwestern Friday at Ford Field. .

“He’s our offense’s leader, our commander on the field,’’ Central coach John Thompson said. “He’s definitely a college prospect as a defensive back and quarterback. He leads the PSL with 11 interceptions.”

The Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week award is representative of the league’s top boys’ and girls’ athletes. The award is presented by the DPS Office of Athletics and is sponsored by Detroit-area McDonald’s owner-operators
