Carver S.T.E.M. receives special visit from Domestic Violence and Breast Cancer Survivor

Students in Caver S.T.E.M. Academy’s “Pretty Brown Girl” program, Principal Sabrina Evans and program facilitators Bettina Carey, Tricia Barnes, Tara Reid and Candace Graham, welcomed Francesca Thomas, a Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence survivor, to speak to students on Friday, October 16.

“I am an eight year Breast Cancer survivor” expressed Thomas. “I was lucky enough to catch it early at age 35 by doing self-examinations and that’s the message I want to get across to these young girls.”

Thomas also shared her personal Domestic Violence story with the young ladies. Her message was a way to express the severity of the issue and the importance of being educated on ways to protect themselves and seek help in potential harmful situations.

This was the first of many speaking engagements that Thomas has planned and she hopes that her life’s story can save someone else’s life as well.
