Cass Tech, Renaissance unbeaten top seeds in PSL girls’ volleyball playoffs

The 2015 Detroit Public School League girls’ volleyball quarterfinals are Thursday (Oct.  15) at two sites, headlined by five-time defending champion Cass Tech (6-0), the unbeaten No. 1 seed in the East, and Renaissance (7-0), the unbeaten top seed in the West.

At King High School, the host Crusaders (5-1) play Western (5-2) at 4 p.m. followed by Cass Tech vs. Mumford (3-4) at 5:30 p.m.  At Renaissance High School, CMA (6-1) plays East English Village (4-2) at 4 p.m., and the host Phoenix play DIA (3-3) at 5:30 p.m.

The quarterfinal winners advance to the PSL semifinals Tuesday (Oct. 20) at Western High School, and will pit the King-Western winner against the Cass-Mumford winner at 4 p.m., followed by the CMA-East English winner against the Renaissance-DIA winner at 5:30 p.m.

The league championship match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 at Western and will be preceded by the 5 p.m. consolation game.

In PSL girls’ volleyball junior varsity play Wednesday (Oct. 14) at King High School, Cass Tech won the league title with a 25-15, 25-14 victory against Renaissance. The Technicians beat CMA 25-8, 25-5 to reach the finals while Renaissance advanced with a 25-12, 25-22 semifinal victory against King.
