Renaissance High sophomore Shania Shepard is unbeaten through the first four meets of the Detroit Public School League girls’ cross country season and is the PSL Proud Strong Learner of the Week.

CrossCountryMeet12015 092Shepard, who placed sixth as a freshman in last year’s league championship meet, has clearly emerged as the PSL’s top girls’ runner this year. So far, she’s dominated her competition over the 5,000-meter course on Belle Isle.

“It’s no surprise at all,” Renaissance coach Calvin Johnson said. “Shania’s upside is tremendous. With her being a sophomore, she’s just now scratching the surface. The best is yet to come.”

The Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week award is representative of the league’s top boys’ and girls’ athletes. The award is presented by the DPS Office of Athletics and is sponsored by Detroit-area McDonald’s owner-operators
