Diann Banks students celebrate prom

Diann Banks Williamson Educational Center students held their prom on Thursday, May 28, at the Atheneum Hotel with students from East English Preparatory Academy. Diann Banks is a secondary center-based Special Education program serving students ages 14-19 and in grades 9-12 with Moderate Cognitive Impairments, Severe Cognitive Impairments, and Severe Multiple Impairments.

“It was obvious that the planning committee made plans for this event with our students in mind. Our students were given three reserved tables strategically placed in the front of the ballroom with a designated waiter, near the buffet line and dance floor,” said Diann Banks principal Roslyn Fluker. “Our staff and chaperons were allowed to remain on the first floor with the students to provide the guidance and support needed for our students to have a pleasurable and safe prom that they will remember for a lifetime!”

Other than these accommodations, our students were completely integrated and enjoyed pictures and gift bags, along with the students from East English Preparatory Academy, Fluker said.
