Repeat was the order of the day Friday at University of Detroit Mercy’s Buysse Field where Renaissance High won the 2015 Detroit Public School League Division 1 softball championship to extend its reign to 11 years in a row.

“I’m proud of the record,’’ said Coach Garrard Taylor, whose Lady Phoenix defeated Cass Tech 8-1 in the PSL Division 1 title game after Central High beat Cody 16-4 in five innings to win its second consecutive PSL Division 2 crown.

Our program has built a tradition and our players become a part of that tradition for the rest of their lives.”

Central has a long way to go before it can match Renaissance’s softball dominance that includes PSL championships in 16 of the last 18 years. But the Lady Trail Blazers, under third-year coach Eric Peeples, appear headed in the right direction.
