There is no cost to participate. Camp Burt Shurly beautification projects include painting, cleaning and gardening. Camp Burt Shurly is located just 65 miles west of Detroit between Ann Arbor and Chelsea, MI. Free bus transportation will be provided.

Camp Burt Shurly is a licensed residential summer camp specifically for DPS students between the ages of 8 and 12. At no cost to student families, each year the camp hosts 100 students per week over an eight-week summer camp term, for a total of 800 students. This will be the first camping experience for these students that would otherwise not have the opportunity.

Transportation will be provided along with meals, linens, toiletries and more. Students will enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including swimming, arts and crafts, fishing and other activities. Additionally, students will also engage in academic enrichment programs including Math, Science and Reading.

“We are excited to be working with many caring adults to provide a clean, safe, healthy, and educational camp experience for so many DPS students. Summer camp would only be a dream for many Detroit children, if they did not have an opportunity to attend this DPS camp. I personally look forward to assisting in the clean-up day and invite everyone who cares about our young people to join me on May 16th,” said Glenda Price, DPS Foundation President.
