The Detroit Institute of Technology (DIT) at Cody, Team 4768, was named “District Event Winners” at the FIRST Robotics Southfield District Competition on Saturday, February 28. The DIT group competed along with 38 teams from Michigan FIRST Robotics. DIT is led by team captain Haider Almaleki, mentors Craig Hepler and Bob Buccellato of Oak Pointe Church, and coached by Math Teacher Carrie Russell.
Students have been working diligently at the University of Michigan’s Michigan Engineering Zone (The MEZ) in midtown since the first week of January to design, build, and program a robot that can pick up and stack totes on a platform. The students are ecstatic about their first district win, but are already back to work improving their robot to prepare for their final district event at Livonia Churchill High School on March 27 and 28.
