The Detroit Public School League boys’ basketball champion and runner-up will compete against its Catholic League counterparts in the 2015 Operation Friendship city championship doubleheader Saturday at University of Detroit Mercy Calihan Hall.

Renaissance (12-7 overall), from the PSL, will oppose Catholic League runner-up Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (10-9 overall) in the 12 noon consolation game followed by unbeaten PSL champion Western (17-0 overall) against Catholic League champion University of Detroit Jesuit (17-2) in the 2 p.m. championship game.

Admission for the doubleheader is $10 and tickets can be purchased at the Calihan Hall box office.

Western won its first PSL boys’ basketball title since 1922 with a 46-45 victory Feb. 20 against Renaissance, while UD Jesuit won its third consecutive Catholic League A-B boys’ title Sunday with a 58-44 victory against Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. Both games were played at Calihan Hall.

The Catholic League champion Birmingham Marian (19-1 overall) and runner-up Dearborn Divine Child (15-5 overall) prevailed against their PSL foes in the girls’ Operation Friendship games last Thursday at Marian High School. Divine Child won 41-34 against Cass Tech (14-5 overall) in the consolation game and Marian won the championship game 50-49 against previously unbeaten King (18-1 overall).
