Pershing senior guard Marquel Ingram named PSL Proud Strong Learner of the Week

Pershing senior Marquel Ingram, who scored 28 points against Osborn to help the Doughboys advance to the Big D boys’ basketball semifinals, has been named Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week.

marquelphotoIngram, a 6-3 guard and third-year varsity player, has a grade point average of 3.4 and is averaging 21 points and six rebounds for the season. He has college scholarship offers from Bethune Cookman and Florida International.

“Marquel is a hard-worker, who loves to win,” Pershing coach Wydell Henry said.

The Doughboys defeated Osborn 81-71 in the quarterfinals, but saw their bid for a third consecutive PSL championship end with a 70-60 semifinal loss against Western, the state’s No. 1-ranked team.

The Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week award is representative of the league’s top boys’ and girls’ athletes. The award is presented by the DPS Office of Athletics and is sponsored by Detroit-area McDonald’s owner-operators.
