Big D girls’ semifinals today at Western; boys’ quarterfinals Tuesday and Wednesday at Renaissance

Today’s semifinals of the Detroit Public School League Big D girls’ basketball tournament will be held at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Western International High School, with the winners advancing to the PSL championship game Friday, Feb. 20, at 5 p.m. at University of Detroit Mercy Calihan Hall.

Mumford (9-2) faces Cass Tech (10-1) in the first semifinal and three-time defending PSL  champion King (10-0) meets Renaissance (8-3) in the semifinal nightcap. Admission is $5.

DPSL Varsity Girls Basketball Tournament Bracket Rd Two Results 020915In quarterfinal action last Tuesday and Wednesday, Mumford ousted Denby 50-11, Cass beat Pershing 58-31, Renaissance defeated DCP-Northwestern 71-30 and King thrashed Ford 58-11.

The Big D boys’ tournament resumes Tuesday and Wednesday Feb. 10-11 with quarterfinal games at Renaissance High School. On Tuesday, Osborn (8-2) plays Pershing (7-3) at 5 p.m. and Cass Tech (5-5) plays unbeaten and No. 1 state-ranked Western (10-0) at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, CMA (9-1) plays Renaissance (6-4) at 5 p.m. followed by Ford (6-4) against East English Village (9-1) at 7 p.m.
