Mumford junior forward Deanna Fletcher named PSL Proud Strong Learner of the Week

Deanna Fletcher, a 5-9 senior forward, gives the Mumford High Lady Mustangs non-stop energy and has been named Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week.

DSC_0096“She’s the ultimate hustle player and our most consistent player,’’ said Mumford coach Kareen Hogan.

“Her energy rubs off on the whole team. She’s our X factor and she’s the reason we’re in the position we’re in.”

The Lady Mustangs (15-3 overall, 9-2 league) have advanced into the Big D tournament semifinals and will play Cass Tech (10-1 league) Monday at 5 p.m. at Western International High School. The winner advances to the PSL championship game Friday, Feb. 20 at University of Detroit Mercy Calihan Hall.

Fletcher is averaging a team-best 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The Detroit Public School League Proud Strong Learner of the Week award is representative of the league’s top boys’ and girls’ athletes. The award is presented by the DPS Office of Athletics and is sponsored by Detroit-area McDonald’s owner-operators
