View photos: ‘Decision Day’ allows seniors to apply to universities & gain acceptance letters in one day

Hundreds of Detroit Public Schools’ high school seniors attended Decision Day 2015 on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 at Renaissance High School.

The annual event is an exclusive college admissions conference created for high school seniors in the city of Detroit that allows students to drop off application material for local universities and receive a decision on their acceptance in a matter of hours.

This year’s Decision Day featured representatives from nearly 20 universities from across the state to meet with students and their families.

Detroit Public Schools’ 2014 graduating class scored $138 million in scholarships and grants. Dr. Barbara K. Smith, Director of the Office of Guidance and Counseling, said she’s confident this year’s graduating class will top these numbers thanks to the resources DPS has provided to students.
